Ask Mona Recognized by the French National Assembly as a Trusted Cultural AI

Jul 10, 2026

A parliamentary report on artificial intelligence and culture highlights Ask Mona's approach through projects developed with the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre Museum, and the Musée d'Orsay.

A report by the French National Assembly on artificial intelligence and culture explicitly cites Ask Mona following Marion Carré's testimony before the parliamentary fact-finding mission. Published on July 1, 2026 by the Committee on Cultural Affairs and Education, the report draws on 63 hearings and testimony from more than 200 contributors between December 2025 and June 2026.

The report examines the impact of generative AI across the cultural sector, from film and music to publishing. Within this broader analysis, the section dedicated to enhancing visitor experiences focuses specifically on Ask Mona.

What the report highlights

The rapporteurs describe Ask Mona as "a generative AI system specifically designed for cultural institutions" and note that it "illustrates the creative potential of AI tools when they are trained on high-quality data and used to serve a clearly defined and socially beneficial purpose, namely fostering visitors' curiosity and engagement."

During her hearing, Marion Carré explained that Ask Mona's goal is to "move beyond a uniform, standardized cultural experience by offering personalized journeys based on each visitor's own questions."

The report references three of Ask Mona's partner institutions: the Louvre Museum, the Musée d'Orsay, and the Palace of Versailles. It gives particular attention to the Versailles experience, developed with OpenAI, where visitors can interact with twenty fountains and sculptures simply by scanning a QR code or taking a photograph.

One point receives particular emphasis: the reliability of the answers provided. The report states:

"Unlike general-purpose language models, the systems developed by Ask Mona are powered by specialized data whose relevance and authenticity are verified by partner cultural institutions, ensuring that visitors receive reliable answers."

This distinction between AI trained on open web data and systems built on institution-approved knowledge has been central to Ask Mona's approach since the company was founded in 2017.

Contributing to the national conversation on cultural diversity and AI

Marion Carré's testimony went beyond describing Ask Mona's technology. It also addressed the broader issue of cultural and linguistic bias in AI models.

Speaking before the parliamentary mission, she pointed out that 55% of online content is written in English, while only 3% is in French, a disparity that inevitably shapes how general-purpose AI models represent the world.

The report quotes her words directly:

"These tools are taking us all in the same direction: we're all moving faster, but toward the same destination. That's the paradox of the moving walkway."

She argued for AI models that better reflect cultural and linguistic diversity.

In doing so, the hearing positioned Ask Mona not only as a company developing AI-powered visitor experiences, but also as a contributor to the national conversation on the future of culture, language, and generative AI.

What this means for cultural institutions

For museums and cultural organizations considering conversational AI, the report provides an independent and authoritative point of reference.

Ask Mona does not build its experiences on general-purpose language models alone. Instead, every conversational system relies on knowledge that is reviewed and validated by the partner institution itself.

This documented methodology, now acknowledged in a report by the French National Assembly, is what distinguishes AI-enhanced cultural mediation from a simple conversation with a generic AI assistant.

Culture and artificial intelligence can move forward together when technology remains in service of the way visitors experience and engage with works of art. That is the vision Marion Carré presented before the French National Assembly, and the one reflected in the report.
