The Château de Versailles, Ask Mona, and OpenAI Reinvent the Cultural Experience with Artificial Intelligence

Mar 9, 2025

Starting in Spring 2025, the Château de Versailles enters a new chapter in its digital strategy through an unprecedented partnership with Ask Mona and OpenAI.
Together, they unveil a groundbreaking experience: real-time, AI-powered conversations with 20 iconic statues and fountains in the gardens of Versailles.

Conversational Mediation at the Heart of the Gardens

By scanning a QR code or taking a photo of a sculpture, visitors can initiate a personalized, immersive dialogue with artworks that reveal:

  • Historical anecdotes
  • Captivating stories
  • Long-lost secrets

This experience combines three areas of expertise:

  • OpenAI’s conversational AI, enabling fluid real-time interaction via the Realtime model
  • Ask Mona’s cultural mediation know-how, ensuring accuracy and editorial relevance
  • The curatorial knowledge of the Château de Versailles, which validates the content for historical authenticity

“By enabling visitors to interact in real time with the statues and fountains in the gardens, this partnership with Versailles and OpenAI introduces a new way to explore heritage.”
Marion Carré, Co-founder and President of Ask Mona

Innovation in the Service of Heritage

This project continues Versailles’ legacy as a place of scientific and artistic innovation.
After experimenting with augmented reality (with Ubisoft) and interactive mapping (with Google Maps), Versailles now pioneers generative AI for cultural experiences.

“Versailles has always been a place of major advancements. With this experiment, we are now testing artificial intelligence, whose incredible potential will transform the public’s experience.”
Christophe Leribault, President of the Château de Versailles

Personalized Visitor Experiences & Audience Insights

Beyond immersive storytelling, the chatbot also serves as a tool for audience analysis.
By observing visitor conversations, teams can identify which themes generate the most interest and adjust their mediation strategies accordingly.

Available until Winter 2025, this project offers a new kind of cultural encounter, where history meets innovation through artificial intelligence.

“This project proves that artificial intelligence can truly revolutionize our relationship with heritage, creating a bridge between history and innovation.”
Julie Lavet, Head of Partnerships, OpenAI
