As fewer travelers visit physical tourist offices, Cap Corse decided to rethink how it welcomes visitors. In partnership with startup Ask Mona, it created Petru, a virtual assistant embodying a local fisherman, deeply rooted in the region’s identity.
Accessible anytime via smartphones, the website, and QR codes in accommodations, shops and attractions, Petru offers personalized, contextual, multilingual information, day and night.
What makes Petru stand out is that it only uses validated content curated by the Tourist Office—from heritage descriptions to hiking trails, event calendars, food recommendations and cultural facts.
This ensures high-quality, place-based answers that represent the authentic voice of Cap Corse, brought to life with a distinctive narrative tone.
By managing frequent questions and standard inquiries, Petru allows staff to focus on high-value activities such as strategic development or experience curation. It’s a smart public service solution, aligned with the expectations of today’s travelers.
“This approach aims to attract a tech-savvy audience while relieving staff from repetitive inquiries, so they can focus on higher-value tasks.”
— Ghjuvan Matteu Susini, President of the Cap Corse Tourist Office
Petru’s interactions generate valuable visitor insights—including top search topics, user languages, most consulted areas, and peak usage times. These analytics empower the Tourist Office to adjust its recommendations, promote lesser-known areas, and make data-informed decisions for future planning.
Designed by Félicia F Design, Petru is more than a chatbot. With his warm tone and storytelling style, he creates a genuine emotional connection with visitors and enhances the destination’s brand through a humanized, engaging digital presence.
